Profile

I help mid to large sized trading and retail companies turn data into a strategic advantage — by embedding it in daily processes, decision-making, and long-term goals. Whether it’s designing modern data architectures, implementing scalable Snowflake solutions, or delivering a complete data strategy within 6 to 12 weeks: I focus on results that truly align with organizational priorities.

Where I excel is bridging the gap between vision and execution. I translate complexity into clarity and know how to combine long-term architecture with rapid, practical delivery. I feel most in my element when there’s room to explore, build, and iterate — with just enough structure to maintain progress without slowing down.

My approach is hands-on, human-centered and based on experimentation. I believe in early testing, rapid learning, and continuous improvement. That mindset — “start small, think big, scale fast” — is embedded in everything I do. Good data systems aren’t just about tooling or models, but especially about adoption and usage. That’s why I pay a lot of attention to behavioral design and truly landing solutions.

Since starting as an independent consultant in 2018, I’ve worked with public and private organizations on everything from strategic roadmaps to platform rollouts — always focused on rapid results that continue to deliver value in the long term. I thrive in environments where challenge, creativity, and focus come together.

Let’s work together to turn your data into concrete progress for your organization.

Services

Data Strategy Program (6–12 weeks)

A structured program for developing and realizing a pragmatic data strategy that aligns with business objectives. The program includes a data maturity analysis, use case prioritization, operating model design, and high-level data architecture. Where relevant, it also looks at AI-readiness, opportunities for LLM applications, and responsible AI usage — all based on DAMA DMBOK and directly applicable in practice.

Data Architecture

Design and implementation of scalable, future-proof data platforms and models — including Data Vault, dimensional modeling, and metadata-driven architectures. Always with focus on modularity, governance, and integration within existing ecosystems like Snowflake, Azure, and Kubernetes.

Data Engineering

End-to-end development of robust, maintainable data pipelines with modern tools like dbt, Dagster, SQL, and Python — on Snowflake, Azure, or open-source environments. Always focused on building smarter and faster, where AI is deployed to accelerate and automate processes where it adds value.

Experience

Data Architect

Inter IKEA, Delft, Netherlands | June 2025 - Present

At Inter IKEA, I started by creating a plan to optimize the data interface and exchange landscape. Through years of growth, thousands of point-to-point interfaces had emerged without holistic oversight or governance. This resulted in insufficient control over data quality, lineage, and applicability. Where initially thought was given to “a new data platform,” the real need proved to be structurally organizing and scaling data governance and data management.

I wrote a pragmatic and executable plan that:

  • Clearly assigns ownership and responsibilities for data domains and lifecycle management
  • Positions a small, focused enablement team to guide business and data teams in capturing metadata, data standards, and data quality rules
  • Defines processes and minimal tooling for catalog, lineage, contracts, and change management, so interfaces grow from point-to-point to manageable patterns
  • Enables step-by-step cleanup and consolidation of connections without disrupting operations

This approach shifted focus from “more technology” to “better governance”, resulting in faster insight into data flows, improved data quality, and a sustainable foundation for decision-making and further modernization.

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Data Governance and Management: ownership, data domains, policies, DQ framework, metadata operating model
  • Interface landscape rationalization: inventory, standardization of patterns, contract-driven exchange, change process
  • Metadata and Lineage: cataloging, definitions, traceability, source-to-consumer insight
  • Team enabling: small core team that coaches and ensures business and data enablement teams
  • Roadmap and Execution: iterative implementation, risk-driven prioritization, measurable improvements in quality and control

Co-founder & Data Lead

Biantix, Soest, Netherlands | January 2025 - May 2025

At Biantix, I combined hands-on data platform engineering with strategic consulting to help organizations truly extract value from their data. In these months, I built a scalable and modular data platform from the ground up with PostgreSQL, dbt, Dagster, Metabase, and Kubernetes, fully deployed via Terraform. The platform supports both rapid experimentation and reliable production environments. Development happens primarily in Python, with Cursor as an AI-enhanced IDE to iterate quickly and efficiently.

During development, I actively used GPT-4, Claude 3.5, and Claude 3.7 to accelerate the development process — by generating infrastructure code, optimizing data models, and automating repetitive tasks. This practical use of generative AI significantly reduced lead times and improved consistency within the stack.

Parallel to the technical work, I developed a reusable data strategy framework, based on DAMA DMBOK, specifically tailored to small and medium-sized organizations. I use this in client projects to measure data maturity, align initiatives with business goals, define operating models, and set up governance without unnecessary complexity. It serves as both a strategic blueprint and a practical executable guide.

These efforts reflect Biantix’s mission: making high-quality, AI-enhanced data capabilities accessible to organizations that want to grow.

Skills & Technologies Applied

  • AI-Assisted Development: GPT-4, Claude 3.5/3.7 for code generation and platform automation.
  • Data Platform Engineering: dbt, PostgreSQL, Dagster, Metabase, Kubernetes, Terraform.
  • Programming & Tooling: Python, Cursor IDE, Git workflows, modular design practices.
  • DevOps & Orchestration: Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, containerized environments

Data Architect

Viterra, Rotterdam, Netherlands | October 2021 - December 2024

At Viterra, I had a key role in shaping and executing the data strategy within a complex, international environment. My work spanned both hands-on data architecture and structurally improving data governance, platform design, security, and innovation.

In the first phase, I focused on bringing structure and scalability to a largely unstructured research environment. The Research department worked mostly with external datasets in free formats. I designed and built a new data platform specifically tailored to this situation — with support for analytics, machine learning, and reporting on global commodity markets. This platform formed the basis for predictive models and reliable insights, giving the team a stable and well-managed foundation to build upon.

Simultaneously, I worked on setting up Viterra’s broader data strategy. I defined the desired architecture, aligned it with business goals and information flows, and ensured that governance, information security, and access control based on responsibilities were structurally embedded within a federated model.

In the second phase, I led the implementation of the data strategy. I designed and documented Viterra’s complete data landscape and established key data management processes within the organization. As lead Data Architect, I was responsible for the rollout of the new Snowflake platform, standardizing data modeling, and improving information management. I also introduced a central data catalog and brought in business architecture principles to better connect data to operational practice.

During this period, I also led the implementation of an AI solution with Snowflake Cortex, based on LLM technology. This use case showed how AI could contribute to improving internal search functions and knowledge discovery.

In addition to the technical work, I coordinated the internal BI team and worked closely with departments to modernize data flows, improve data quality, and stimulate adoption of new tooling. In doing so, I applied principles of behavioral design and decentralized responsibility to promote adoption in a federated organizational context. My approach was strategic and pragmatic — focused on delivering value and building trust within the organization.
